Shopping small and independent - South West Makers, Langport

two people in a shop with a Be Somerset microphone

One of the important, inspiring, and distinctive parts of our Somerset communities is our small independent shop owners. From Frome to Langport, from Dulverton to the Taunton Independent Quarter, there are people passionate about showcasing local and unique... delivering a beautifully curated shopping experience whether it's gifts, books, art, eats, and lots. lots more. These shops are the backbone of our independent shopping streets and a way for us all to support small (and mighty!)

Here on Be Somerset (and also on Somerset cool) we'll be showcasing and supporting independent shop owners, bringing you their stories and hopes, with a new little series, 'Indie Shop Spotlight'... bite-sized conversations with shop owners across the county, who light up our high streets.

For our first episode, Jenna headed to Langport to chat with maker and owner of the South West Makers shop, Rachel Smith.

Rachel's shop is in The Old Register Office on Bow St, and Rachel and Jenn took a moment to grab a coffee, sit at the till and talk about why Rachel set up the shop, and more about its place in the community.

Have a listen by pressing play below... and here's to shopping small and local.
